Valeo in Italy

As one of the founding countries of the company, Italy played a key role in the expansion of Valeo, which is today one of the biggest automotive suppliers in the world.

Profile

Valeo’s origins in Italy date back to 1964 in Turin, when the Société Anonyme Francaise du Ferodo (SAFF) started producing clutch facings for Fiat original equipment.

In Italy, the very first plant was built in 1965 in Mondovì, under the leadership of Mr. Carlo Donatelli.

In 1970, the strong expansion of the company continued with the development of Valeo Sud S.p.A. in Ferentino, which mainly produces innovative Thermal Systems for vehicles.

By 1974, Valeo Italy had inaugurated a Research and Development (R&D) excellence center in Santena (Torino region) to better satisfy customer requirements.

A decade later, the expanding company decided to move its regional headquarters from Mondovì to Santena and Valeo’s aftermarket business was created there in 1988, later renamed Valeo Service Italia. In 1993, the Pianezza lighting plant was built, which currently supplies a number of major automakers.

Our activities

Valeo Italy has 4 major production plants located in 4 regions, 2 R&D centers and 1 aftermarket distribution platform. Italy is a key location for both the Group’s production and its international Research and Development activities.

Mondovi, the first Valeo site founded in Italy, is the largest in terms of employees and surface area today. The site is focused on the production of Powertrain Systems for the “Gran Turismo” market.

Initially a Research and Development center, the Santena facility is now a multi-activity site:

  • Valeo Holding Group, the main shared services center with Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, Environment and Safety, Purchasing and Sales activities for local automotive companies.
  • Valeo Service Italy, which is a global leader in the automotive aftermarket sector. It supplies all of Italy, all of the Balkans (Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Cyprus, Malta, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Northern Macedonia) and Greece, with a complete, premium and differentiated package of aftermarket automotive solutions.
  • Comfort and Driving Systems – Valeo ISC Italy specializes in Switches, Human Machine Interface (HMI) control panels and displays. It offers added value in terms of service, flexibility, product know-how and in-depth knowledge of its customers to fully understand their needs and offer them optimal solutions. Valeo ISC Italy has autonomous production units, a Development center supported by the Research center in Annemasse (France), and a plant certified in line with international standards.

Ferentino’s site specializes in Thermal Systems. In recent years, the company showed a strong increase in the production of the thermoplastic moulding department.

Valeo’s site in Pianezza is focused on Visibility Systems, providing quality solutions for its customers, including several luxury automakers.
